Across the Universe

Hello everyone!

I recently finished reading Across the Universe by Beth Revis. A great read for anyone who has some time on their hands. Here's the low-down:

Amy is a cryogenically frozen passenger aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed. She expects to wake up on a new planet, 300 years in the future. But fifty years before Godspeed's scheduled landing, Amy's cryo chamber is unplugged, and she is nearly killed.
Now, Amy is caught inside an enclosed world where nothing makes sense. Godspeed's passengers have forfeited all control to Eldest, a tyrannical and frightening leader, and Elder, his rebellious and brilliant teenage heir.
Amy desperately wants to trust Elder. But should she? All she knows is that she must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets before whoever woke her tries to kill again.

It's a quick-read and although I was a bit critical of it while I was in the midst of reading it, I found that afterward I couldn't get it out of my head! I immediately went to my local library  and checked out the second book (A Million Suns).

The story switches point of views between Elder (the main male character) and Amy (the heroine). It can be a little annoying, as I found myself wishing she had stayed on one side because she's great at ending the chapters at some suspenseful times. There were points in the book (bits of dialogue, character quirks) that I found ridiculous. Like a character would say something that no one would ever say in that situation unless they wanted to get socked in the face--and unfortunately, that doesn't happen. Overall, Revis creates a great mystery and dystopian world aboard a very claustrophobic ship that reminds you that we should be very grateful for living on the planet we do. I also love that she implants little tiny pieces of faith in small moments between pages.

I would definitely suggest it if you're looking for another great read on your book list.
